Bernie Sanders tells it like it is – The American People Are Angry

The American People Are Angry

s House and Senate leaders fine-tuned rival deficit reduction plans on Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke on the Senate floor about the public’s strong belief that additional revenue from the wealthy should be part of any package to reduce red ink. He cited a new Washington Post poll that found 72 percent favor raising taxes on those who make more than $250,000 year. Despite those overwhelming numbers, he said, “We are marching down a path which will do exactly opposite of what the American people want.” He called Republican opposition to more revenue “fanatical.” He also faulted President Obama for a bargaining strategy that sugars down to this: “Retreat after retreat after retreat.” Of the competing House and Senate proposals Sanders bluntly concluded that one is bad and the other is much worse. He shared his assessment with radio host Ed Schultz.

The senator also summarized his analysis in this statement:

“The rich are getting richer, and their effective tax rate is the lowest in modern history. Many corporations are enjoying huge profits and, because of outrageous loopholes, pay nothing in taxes. Among many other absurdities, we lose about $100 billion every year from companies and individuals who stash their wealth in tax havens in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and other locations.

“And yet, the Republicans have been fanatically determined to protect the interests of billionaires and large multi-national corporations so that they do not contribute one penny toward deficit reduction. The Republicans want the entire burden of deficit reduction sacrifice to be placed on the elderly, the sick, children, and working families. That is morally wrong and, in terms of getting us out of this recession, bad economic policy.

“Sadly, the Democrats have yielded far, far too much. In December, with the Democrats controlling the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate they extended Bush’s tax breaks for the rich and lowered the tax rates on estates for the very rich. In April, they allowed tens of billions of dollars in cuts to vitally important programs for low- and moderate-income Americans. [CONTINUE READING ON RSN]

United States Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is my new hero.  Senator Sanders is an outspoken realist about the concerns of America. He’s in touch with America.  While other politicians, including the leader of the “free world”, ignore the Wall Street abuses upon our nation – Bernie speaks out.

He has Polls on his senate website that are very telling as he describes in the video.  Senator Sanders has taken the time to listen to Americans from all over the country. Every politician could learn something from Senator Sanders – he is truly the people’s politician.

Senator Sanders started his political career in 1971 when he joined an anti-Vietnam War party as so many baby boomers did to protest the America’s involvement and the war.  It took guts back then just as it takes guts now to face the opposition.

Bernie Sanders, with a greater insight than most politicians, criticized Alan Greenspan long before the Wall Street securitization Ponzi scheme collapsed the economy. In June 2003, during a question-and-answer discussion with the then-Federal Reserve chairman, Sanders told Greenspan that he was concerned that Greenspan was “way out of touch” and “that you see your major function in your position as the need to represent the wealthy and large corporations.” Senator Sanders has maintained and warned (in 1998) that investment banks and commercial banks should remain as two separate entities.  Bernie was right on target – however, [back then] very few were listening. We’re listening now!

It takes a hero to step into the light and speak the truth.  Stop by Senator Sanders’ webpage and take a look at his Poll – it’s free… and it’s very interesting.  There are thousands of people who think the same way you do.

I hope I have a chance to meet Senator Sanders one day and tell him how much I appreciate the position he took and for speaking up for Americans.  Maybe he’ll run for President… right now, I’d vote for him.

  1. I am very proud of you Sir, it is about time to see a senator like you stand for our hard working people of this country. This country was built on strong standing people like you and the great number of hard working middle class who were and continually taken advantage of by the government, big business and the very rich. We need to go back to the foundation of this once great country which was founded upon liberty, truth, values, morals and most important The Word of GOD which was the core writting of our declaration of independence, the constitution of the united states and of many great presidents. Also think about who really helps other countries and families of the united states in times of trouble, hardship, wars and disasters are the middle class and yes even the poor who may not have money but only thier prayers and donation of thier physical presence to help. Whos money bailed out the big business and banks? It was the tax payers money!!! Who was it who went to war for the country? The average AMERICAN!!! Who is it who are concerned about the countries deficite? The Same Proud Hard Working Americans!!! How can our Congress who cater to the rich and thier lobbiest continue to represent this country and forget and violate the oath they took to protect each American citizen and go beyond the will of the people and sell us out for money. THE SHAME ON THIS GOVERNMENT. What happened to “We The People”, I guess it was changed to We the individuals who are politicians without morals, ethics and without the best intrest of the people they represent, will make our decisions on how much money I can get to stay in office. Well the retirement you all get still comes from guess where, the same hard working Americans that are getting the shaft by you. Well let me see, it really looks like the truth is that without these upstanding citizens we would be without a country. Lastly I give my greatiest appreciation to the military and the families who have given the greatiest sacrafice for this country, but used also to make the rich richer in wars that were created and fought by proud hard working Americans. And yet did any of these companies put the money they made back into taking care of our injured military vets to help them regain thier life back and compensate them and thier families for thier sacrafice? It is a sad day when the truth is a lie and a lie is the truth!!! It is about time to help all the people of this great nation by keeping them in thier homes and jobs. The real truth is the tax payers paid off these homes when the government used our tax moneys to bail them out. Think about that!!!!
